  • ‘We Got Justice for Quinn’: Child’s Mother Reacts to Trent Butt Verdict

There were tears of joy, sorrow and relief as the jury returned this afternoon with a first degree murder conviction for Trent Butt in the death of his five year old daughter, Quinn.

That means 40-year-old Butt will serve a mandatory sentence of life in prison with no eligibility for parole for 25 years.

Quinn’s mother Andrea Gosse, clad in pink and purple, her daughters favourite colours, spoke to reporters outside the courthouse this afternoon.

She cried “It felt like forever, but we got justice for Quinn.” Now she says they’ll work on making changes to protect other children.

Following two days in the jury room, the 12 jurors returned Friday afternoon with a guilty verdict to one count of first degree murder. There were cheers in the packed gallery, followed by embraces.

Butt pleaded guilty to arson causing property damage. He returns to court in April for a sentencing hearing on both charges. This will give those impacted by the murder an opportunity to deliver a victim impact statement in court.

Crown Prosecutor Lloyd Strickland says they are satisfied this was the right outcome, but says nothing will take away the grief of those mourning Quinn.

The jury has now been excused.
