  • Warranties Cloudy as Sears Prepares to Shutter Doors

It will take a while before Sears goes into full liquidation mode, but people who have already purchased from the department store are wondering about warranty. A retail consultant in metro says it’s not a black and white issue.

The retail giant, which brought us the coveted Sears Wishbook, is shutting down all of its operations in Canada which include an outlet at the Avalon Mall. It means some 12,000 people will lose their jobs across Canada, and about 100 in St. John’s.

Terry Hussey, the CEO of Vigilant Management, says most extended warranties would probably be underwritten by a third party. As for the standard manufacturer’s warranty, things are somewhat cloudy. Sears had a large appliance repair business.

As the company is shutting down, their will do appease customers is unlikely to be what it would have been otherwise.
