Winter wear is taking its toll on line painting on the province’s roads, and the City of St. John’s says they are continuously looking for ways to improve.
The manager of Public Works with the City of St. John’s, Lynnann Winsor, says how long line painting lasts depends on a variety of factors. She says the amount of traffic, studded tires, heavy equipment like snow plows and freeze/thaw cycles all play a role.
Winsor says the city is always looking for ways to improve line painting and line painting abilities.
She says they try different chemical compositions of paint to see what may last longer in our harsh environment, along with high-performance pavement marking tape that you can put slightly underneath within the asphalt to enable the asphalt to last longer.
