A young woman who was present the night 33-year-old Bernard Mason was shot in Avondale says Mason had fallen to the ground just moments before he was shot. The Crown rested its case yesterday in the trial of 21-year-old Jesse Lewis of Avondale.
The Crown finished on the stand with its last witness, a young woman who says she had just turned 18 years old two days prior to the night of the incident April 21, 2017. She has a past relationship history with both the victim and the accused.
The young woman was visibly emotional recounting details of that night. She described the victim, 33-year-old Bernard Mason, arriving at the Lewis House.
She told the judge that Jesse Lewis was afraid of Mason, and she was afraid Mason was going to kill him. Mason caused a disturbance and damage inside the house, before the conflict moved outside.
At this point, the woman testified Lewis was holding the shotgun down by his leg. She says Mason fell to the ground, but as he was trying to get up, the gun went off.
There was a dramatic police pursuit before Lewis was arrested for the shooting.
The trial resumes this morning.
