A new documentary telling the stories of some of the so-called plane people stranded in the Gander region during 9/11 premieres on HBO Tuesday.
“You Are Here: A Come From Away Story” chronicles the actual events experienced by passengers and Newfoundlanders whose lives were changed that day.
The film’s director, Moze Mossanen, says he was inspired by the Broadway hit, Come From Away. He didn’t want to make a documentary based on the musical itself, but about the real Newfoundlanders the musical was based on.
Mossanen also says he wanted to tell some of the stories that hadn’t been told before, such as the story of Nick and Diane, who were stranded in Newfoundland on that day and ended up falling in love.
The documentary will debut on HBO at 10:30 p.m. next Tuesday, the 17th anniversary of 9/11.
