Bay Man :

Wow! For Tom Best to even suggest the use of the cod trap is such a setback. If his sugeestion is a true representation of the collective thought of the fishers then I say leave the fishery closed forever. I grew up in a small fishing outport(still live their) I remember well the days of the cod trap. You could walk the beaches up to yours knees in small tomcods...dumped overboard because it was too small to sell and porcess. Get with the program. Tom Best in the true interest of reviving a cod fishery should be advocating first and foremost for a complete ban on the "Commercial Caplin Fishery"

Is this guy serious, OMG THE COD IS STARTING TO RECOVER, LETS FISH IT TO DEATH AGAIN!! Sorry your only making enough for a 70,000 dollar pick up and not a 90,000 dollar one. Maybe next year fellas.

First of all the NDP's are only looking for votes. Leave the poor fish alone the recreational fishery is enough and this bi catch that they have is plenty as well you all are not happy til everything is cleaned out AGAIN! Eventually there will be nothing left. Yes there were alot of fish around this summer and I recall there were alot of fish around the same way 2 years before they closed it. Leave it be.

Unbelievable - bring back the traps and gill nets - are you out of your mind?

Hook and Line and Trawl should be the only methods of a fishery!

perhaps the lazy fishermen message is true! Why work for days catching your quota when you can get it all in one day!

Fishermen has learned NOTHING!

Wayne P :

I have family who are involved in the inshore fishery and I have seen with my own eyes the amount of cod that exists in the bay. However, I am reluctant still to throw the doors wide open and start setting traps. First and foremost to me - there has to be NO dragging for cod on the grand banks. That is what killed the fishery to begin with. Inshore fishermen would never have lived long enough to destroy it. Let's be cautious people.

Robert :

The hand line fishery went on for some 500 years! Why does it take experts to understand that you cannot mess with the bottom of the oceans. Ban draggers and anything that destorys the ocean bottom and the "ground" fish will take care of themselves.
