CoolTopsail :

I was there a few weeks ago and it was a great experience for the whole family. This is the kind of fun and sustainable tourism we should be encouraging. Get a life lady!!!

Wtf :

I've zipped the course a couple of times and I feel that this course offers a world class tourist attraction. Maybe the real reason she doesn't want the zipline in that location is because she doesn't want the public to see the car wrecks and garbage on her property.

Happy Zipliner :

I had the privilege of ziplining there in June. What an awesome experience. And at no time was I able to see down into her backyard. I know where it is, because I used to live in the area. Quit whining and let people enjoy the wonderful experience. You may as well accept it because your complaints are not only unfounded, they are being taken for what they are...nonsense!

Stop your whining :

If that was someone from Germany or the UK that came in to build this project, people would be all for it, but since it is someone from NL, we have to keep them down. We as a people like to see our own get ahead, but only so far, then we figure they are getting too much and try to bring them down.

And as for 'just tying the line to a tree', try explaining what you were doing to the person who hits it as they are out enjoying the beautiful view of the harbor.

Eastender :

Unless you are watching for the people, then how would you know that they are zipping by? Unless they are screaming, but that would only be for a few seconds. How come there are not other complainers??

Unreal :

This is just too silly to be even talking about it! Get a life and worry about something important for a change.

Just me. :

Hey Bern, Airplanes and Helicopters are not as low or as slow as zipliners. I know I wouldn't want people zipping through my backyard either. but by all means, get the survey done and if it indeed falls on the property? Get a court order to cease operations. Most people value privacy. how would you feel if it were your back yard being gawked at from a few feet above? Show some understanding here by.

Seen it :

if this zipline was on the persons property wouldn't it show up when the city approved such a venture.I am sure that the people whom operate the Zipline got their t's crossed and I's dotted.I believe this lady has nothing better to do then get on open line and complain. If there was anything to her complaint the zipline company would not have been able to get the permits required to operate. In closing it seems that this person needs to have a big set of walls put up and a ceiling so no one can see her.also I have nothing to do with these guys whom operate this business

Craig :

Unless the people using the zip line are throwing things onto her property there is really nothing she can do. Do planes cross her property? She can't stop aircraft so, why does she think she can stop a zip liner. If she knows that they are crossing her property one suggestion--don't sunbath naked.

Accident waiting to happen :

That setup is unsafe, and unprofessional, something bad will happen out there. I have zip-lined in a few country's numerous times, but seen nothing like is going on out there. Stay away

Dustin :

Too Bad the government doesnt invest in mountain bike trails that tourists and locals can use!

Sounds like someone is trying to get an easy buck over this one. FYI: you dont own air space. It is not over the property but NEAR. I say get a life & maybe a job....

Ive been there :

I have been there. There is only one zip in which you can even see her property, and even on that one you aren't close.
I would love to live by a zipline. If I was bored, I would probably just watch them come down for a laugh.

Sandy :

Wow!! I'd be in total support of her if it was over her property. However, tying the Zipline to a tree could be very dangerous for the innocent person riding it! She should be charged with endangering a life!! Just because you have a beef with somebody, it doesn't give you the right to put an innocent person's life at risk!! That's very irrational and self-centered!!

JJ :

I understand where she is coming from - these comments are self-centered; how would you feel if it was YOUR property and YOUR privacy being invaded? If she can "tie a zipline to a tree" that obviously shows that it is coming really close to her property. These types of things should not be passing through residential areas.

GOLF anyone :

The $100,000.00 would have been better spent on PITCHER POND GOLF COURSE, home of NL summer games golf team. The parking lot and roadway needs to be paved.

KrazyCanuck2011 :

As a pilot I know Canadian airspace laws - you buy the ground the house sits on, not the airspace around it. As long as the zipline is not endangering people persons or property (ie a house) than she needs to get over this and move on.... Read the Canadian Air Regs.... Thats why they exist. Geesh I'm glad to know air law, otherwise every wacko would be going around with a shotgun when you fly over there house saying your on my land... LOL....

Overland? :

Planes go over my land all the time. Often, there's lots of noise. Wonder what would happen if I took matters into my own hands and tried to stop THAT. . .

Posted: 8/26/2012 11:29:01 AM
What?! :

I've been on that zip (all ten runs) and trust me -- you cannot see anyone's property. All you see is gorgeous views of the ocean and treeline. There are only three runs each day and it's not a noisy activity. Why is this woman trying to ruin the best outdoor activity to come to the east coast in ages? She should be promoting it!

Jocko on the Rocko :

Seems to me that every project here in Newfoundland has someone opposing it. Yes we need all projects scrutinized and gone over with a fine tooth comb to make sure it is a good deal and that it has little as possible impact. However if we are ever to achieve anything here we need to move ahead with projects that take us into the 21st century. Projects that provide jobs and money to an economy that as struggled for years. We hear people and politicians complaining for years about lack of employment and out migration. It's all they have ever complained about but when someone tries to do something about it there is always someone else waiting on the sidelines to oppose it and drag it down. Other Cities, towns, provinces and countries can do amazing projects from huge buildings to tunnels under the seas and mountians but us here cannot seem to do anything for fear and nearsightedness. We still have that defeatist attitude. What a shame. We have a chance to progress but are to afraid to do it.

$100k to a government buddy - but yet our children have to buy their own school supplies and some don't have enough money to buy milk!

Government priorities at its best! Dunderblunder

Really..... It is great that we are getting things like this new zip line in this province. We need more things like this. This lady had nothing better to do then complain. And seriously, tieing the line to a tree are you trying to Hurt someone. I hope if you do something like that again that you do get arrested. It's people like you who make it worse for everyone else.

Sherrieo :

Seriously lady...is it right over your house..or even on your land..do you even know? No..dish out your own money..get the surveying done..til then..grow up..you have no proof..it is not like people are coming down it every 5 minutes..and to tie the zipline to a tree..is ridiculas..that is not your property..and could get expensive if anything was to happen to it..

Carogers :

Why would she tie the zip line to a tree? Wouldn't that cause the user to crash into the tree? I know she has a beef but intentially causing harm? Wouldn't the zipline company have a survey done before they opened for business? Then viewing the registered survey at confed bld would show where the boundries are, this seems like a lot of kick up and no research for answers.

Sunny :

"tied one of the zip lines to a tree"?? what does that mean? sounds pretty dangerous!

Bern :

What is the big deal? Get your survey, everyone should have one and of course you have to pay for it like everyone else. You say your privacy is invaded! So I guess you want restricted airspace over your house so planes and helicopters cannot fly over either. Get real missus

Posted: 8/26/2012 8:22:11 AM
What if? :

If its going "over" her land does it even matter? Is there even anything she can do?

Grow up Dawn!!

All I got to say is that this woman has got nothing to do but complain about something! Whenever someone comes up with an idea theres always someone else trying to destroy it, stop complaining lady and leave it alone, unless your planning on doing something with that land in which i highly doubt it. Try doing something with your life and stop the BS about the Zipline!
