Joshua Steele-Young, 23, says he rolled his Honda Civic in March 2017 because his ex-girlfriend, who was his passenger, shoved his arm.
The crash left 21-year-old Morgan Pardy paralyzed from the waist down, after she was thrown from the vehicle.
Both Joshua Steele-Young and Morgan Pardy say they were dating for about five-months before to the accident, and that they were on-again-off-again in the days prior.
Steele-Young was driving his five-speed Honda Civic on Pitts Memorial Drive when he lost control. The car rolled three times.
Both say they were arguing in the moments leading up to the crash. Pardy had removed her seatbelt, testifying she begged Steele-Young to stop the car.
Today, however, Steele-Young told a different story on the stand. He says Pardy pushed him in his right arm, causing him to swerve to the left, losing control. Pardy was thrown from the car, and paralyzed from the waist down.
Steele-Young is facing charges of dangerous driving and forcible confinement as a result of the crash.
When asked by his lawyer if he ever intended to keep Pardy from getting out of the car, Steele-Young answered “No.”
The trial continues.
