Health Minister John Haggie is correcting what he calls misinformation being spread by a personal care home operator in Glovertown.
Paul Oram says seniors living together who require different levels of care are being separated—sometimes in different communities—all due to recent policy changes.
Minister Haggie admits while couples are sometimes separated due to differing needs, personal care homes can sign on for enhanced level of care, allowing people who have greater needs to stay in a personal care home longer.
He says those who are Levels 3 and 4 are accommodated through the Regional Health Authorities, but personal care homes also have access to the enhanced level of care program allowing those with Level 3 needs to stay in the personal care home longer.
He says the aim is to have separated couples placed in facilities near each other.
When couples are separated there is a transportation policy in place allowing people to visit back and forth.
