A judge in Corner Brook has turned the tables on a woman who sued the Town of Norris Point for leftover booze.
On December 29, 2018, Colleen Rose organized a seniors’ party in Norris Point. The Town agreed to let Rose use the community hall for the party at no fee; Rose gave an $80 donation.
The woman supplied the alcoholic beverages for the party, and had intended to return to the hall to take home the leftover alcohol. But before she did, the town caretaker cleaned up the mess left behind from the party.
The caretaker testified that he only poured out two bottles of wine. He says both were left open, and both contained only small amounts. He says he didn’t see or take any other booze.
Rose sued the town for $500 over what she alleges is missing alcohol. Rose accuses the caretaker of stealing the booze, which he denied. The judge believed the caretaker, not Rose.
The statement of claim was thrown out in court, and instead of a $500 payday, the judge ordered Rose pay the town $200.
