The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay is offering whatever assistance is necessary should the Goose River cut off the towns of North West River and Sheshatshiu.
Water levels on the Goose River, which are being continually monitored, dropped several inches yesterday after a tense few days.
The Mayor of Happy Valley-Goose Bay says he’s reached out to the leaders of both towns should things worsen. In the meantime, Wally Andersen says they’re keeping a close eye on the Churchill River since the Goose River usually peaks about 10 days before the Churchill.
He says they’re monitoring water levels continually and are hoping to avoid a situation like that in 2017.
Two years ago, flooding on the Churchill River forced the evacuation of Mud Lake and parts of Happy Valley-Goose Bay.
