A 50-year-old woman set to stand trial today for alleged assault with a weapon changed her plea this morning.
Brenda Mercer was arrested following an incident in Paradise in November 2016. She was charged with assault with a weapon, uttering death threats, and six weapons related offences.
Mercer elected trial by judge and jury, and this morning, potential jurors arrived at court, ready for the selection process to begin.
But instead, at the last minute, Mercer changed her plea. She admits to pointing a firearm at a male and admits to uttering the death threats.
The remaining weapons offences have been conditionally withdrawn.
Mercer is now due back in court on Monday when it’s expected the Crown will read an agreed statement of facts into the record, outlining exactly what happened.
