Newfoundland and Labrador tops all provinces when it comes to money spent boozing.
Statistics Canada figures for the fiscal year 2016-2017 (April 1-March 31) show that this province spends $1,056 per person on alcohol. That’s almost $200 per person more than the nearest province, British Columbia.
Most provinces are in the $700 range while a couple are in the $600’s. Two of the territories spend even more than Newfoundland and Labrador. The national average was $755.
Beer is the drink of choice in most jurisdictions, including this province. Almost 50 per cent of the spirits sold in NL is rum.
