A woman who recently required the help of an ambulance is pointing out an area of inefficiency in the health care system she witnessed first-hand.

The woman, who asked not to have her name used, told VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daly that when she arrived at St. Clare’s, she had to wait in the hall with an ambulance operator and paramedic for an extended period.

She waited for 13 to 14 hours and the paramedic and ambulance operator were not allowed to leave until she was seen by a doctor and she had a room. She says there were other three or four ambulances tied up there in a similar way.

She says those are ambulances that could have been used in another way, not to mention the overtime paid out.
