A WestJet pilot was placed on medical leave after he was struck in the eye by a laser on approach to Orlando International Airport on a flight from Newfoundland.
WestJet says on Saturday, May 18 the crew on board WestJet Flight 1948 from St. John’s to Orlando reported a laser strike on approach to Orlando International Airport.
The incident was reported immediately to local authorities for further investigation.
WestJet says any pilot who reports being struck by a laser is required for safety and health reasons to undergo an ophthalmology evaluation. WestJet says it cannot offer any more information for privacy reasons.
Reports out of the US indicated that the Federal Aviation Agency is investigating the incident reported about 40 km from the airport.
The flight landed safety.
