Another polar bear sighting in Labrador has prompted a caution from wildlife officials.
Conservation officers are monitoring the movements of a polar bear near L’Anse Amour, on the Southeast Coast of Labrador near Blanc Sablon. The animal was spotted yesterday swimming in a body of water near the town, and another sighting from today was shared on Facebook.
Meanwhile, the Department of Land Resources is encouraging absolute safety when dealing with polar bears. The department says you should never approach a polar bear.
If you encounter one, try to stay downwind of the animal, avoid eye contact, give it plenty of room to escape, back away slowly and never run.
Anyone who sees a polar bear in the area is asked to contact the Port Hope Simpson forestry and wildlife office at 709-960-0400.
