Brenda Mercer was arrested and charged November 4, 2016, following an incident the evening prior at a home in Paradise.
According to the facts, her son went to her home in Paradise to drop off items he had that belonged to Mercer. These were items she wanted back, including a .22 caliber rifle. The facts say Mercer and her son had a difficult relationship.
The rifle in question was pink in colour, but painted green. The facts say Mercer owned the gun, but that her son had it for some time, and used it for target shooting at a firing range.
The man returned the rifle without any ammunition, and with a yellow trigger lock. He left the items for Mercer on her front step.
The facts say as the man went to drive away, Mercer then yelled out for her son, crying, saying she didn’t want to fight. The son said that’s when Mercer’s demeanour changed, “something was different about her behaviour that night,” he told police, according to the facts.
Mercer admits this is when she pointed the firearm at her son, and threatened him by saying, “there is a bullet in here for you tonight.”
Her son reported Mercer was “aggressive and incoherent,” and said he felt threatened by her. He left and called police. @VOCMNEWS pic.twitter.com/Xqx1YaYs99
