54-year-old John Duff of Goulds has been given a suspended sentence and has been banned from owning a pet for two-years after he stabbed his family cat to death in October 2018.
When John Duff pleaded guilty to one count of killing an animal, it was said he killed the family cat Oreo in his kitchen sink.
Today at Sentencing however Duff was adamant that he killed the cat outside the home, and then went to the kitchen sink to clean up.

According to the facts, when police arrived, the deceased animal was outside the home. Police found blood and cat fur in the kitchen sink.
Duff admits he did it, saying the cat was old and obese. He says he’s never been in trouble until he turned 50, and cites late onset of Huntington’s Disease as a contributing factor to his behaviour.
Judge Colin Flynn handed Duff a suspended sentence and two-years probation. One of the conditions of his probation is not to have a pet.
