The Town of Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s has been granted funding for a two year Climate Change Coordinator position.
The Grant from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities is to help increase the capacity to adapt to the effects of climate change or reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Jeff Lawlor is the Director of Economic Development, Marketing, and Communications at the town. He says with this climate coordinator position and other projects they are doing with FCM, they are receiving a lot of support.
Lawlor says it’s a huge network of municipalities and non profit groups that are coming together to work on environment initiatives together. He says there’s a huge amount of resources that come with the funding.
The collaborative effort helps so that municipalities can learn from each others mistakes, best practices, what they’ve done, the research and the work they are doing today to try to mitigate problems in the future.
