Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador has announced the recipients of its 2019 Awards Program.
The awards were presented at an event this past weekend in Grand Falls-Windsor, and honour those who help to improve recreation in the province.
In total, six awards were presented to a mix of individuals, groups and municipalities.
Bridging the Gap Award: Newfoundland and Labrador Shooting Association.
This award recognizes an individual, group, program or facility that has furthered the inclusion of persons with disabilities in the area of recreation, sport and active living.
Active Communities Award: Town of Pasadena
The award recognizes the achievements of communities that have worked to identify and create facilities, open spaces and opportunities for people to be active and engaged in their communities.
Teen Challenge Youth Leadership Award: Madison Collins, Gander, NL
This award celebrates young leaders who are driving change towards a more active lifestyle, inspiring and motivating their peer’s involvement in physical activity.
Cy Hoskins Memorial Award of Merit: Sean McKenna, Mount Pearl, NL
This award is presented to a full-time recreation practitioner who has made significant contributions to the growth and development of recreation.
Volunteer of the Year Award: Janet Budden, Town of Roddickton-Bide Arm
This award recognizes a volunteer for outstanding efforts and invaluable contributions to the development of recreation.
Volunteer Group of the Year: Torbay Lions Club
