The family of an elderly man missing from Valleypond on New World Island is asking the public for help in locating Andy Canning.

The 70-year-old, who is known in the area for his walks through the community and along the main roads, was last seen Tuesday evening.

His nephew, Todd Canning, is a union leader with the York Region District School Board, attending a conference in Toronto.

He says Andy’s family is beside themselves with worry.

He describes Andy as well known in the area and “completely harmless.” Canning would not have had his medication since Monday, and they’re very concerned. Canning is one of nine siblings, three of whom are retired Salvation Army pastors.

They’re asking anyone who may have seen Andy, affectionately known as “Torch,” to contact Twillingate RCMP at (709) 884-2811.
