A young man who had only recently been issued a driver’s licence has been arrested and charged after a dramatic pursuit in Conception Bay North early Tuesday morning.
A police officer on patrol saw a vehicle go through a red light at an intersection in Bay Roberts around 2:20 in the morning. The suspect vehicle sped away, and police caught up with it at a residence in Clarke’s Beach.
The driver got out of the vehicle and ran into a nearby home where he was arrested and charged with flight from police, dangerous operation of a vehicle and numerous charges under the Highway Traffic Act.
The vehicle was seized and impounded and the driver’s licence was suspended. Police say the driver was only newly-licenced and was driving past his 12:00 o’clock curfew.
