Volunteers with the Nature Conservancy of Canada are fanning out across the Codroy Valley today to plant thousands of trees.
Stewardship co-ordinator, Julia Lawler, says they`re planting 1500 native trees, including white spruce, tamarac and balsom poplar.
She says the species were chosen in consultation with experts familiar with local conditions. White spruce does well in sunny locations, the balsom do well in flood plains and the tamarac compete well in areas with other vegetation.
Lawler says the species are even naturally moose-resistant. She says moose don`t find white spruce and tamarac very tasty.
