Families evacuated from High Level, Alberta, due to raging wildfires will be returning home today as the order was lifted this morning.
The 2,800 square kilometer fire is still burning south of High Level, but the danger to the town has passed.
Robyn Dwyer, originally from Newfoundland, was called back early to help get the hospital ready for returning residents.
Dwyer says the skies are clear over High Level now, with more smoke being directed on the winds toward Edmonton. She says the entire process has been extremely stressful on her family, and for people away from their homes, and expects the hospital to be busy as people return.
However, while the mandatory evacuation order is being lifted, an evacuation alert will remain in place. That means residents must be ready to leave again at short notice.
