The new Executive Director of the St. John’s Status of Women Council says there is lots of work to be done when it comes to advocacy.
Today marks the first day on the job for Laura Winters, the newest Executive Director of the Council.
During an interview on the VOCM Morning Show, Winters says she will continue to listen to women and hear what their needs are, as women are the experts on their own experiences.
She says a huge piece of the St. John’s Status of Women Council is advocacy, and there are many issues in the province they want to continue to advocate around.
Winters says the high rates of domestic violence, the wage gap, violence against Indigenous women and girls are just a few things to advocate around. There is lots of work to do, and Winter says she is excited to work with other community groups and government to move these issues forward.
