Today is the deadline for a petition for those opposed to a proposed composting facility for Long Harbour.
Linda Murphy says residents are opposed to the proposal which will see the composting of mink and chicken offal, and the byproducts of the aquaculture industry among other things.
Metro Environmental is behind the proposal. Similar unsuccessful attempts to establish the facility in the Holyrood and Argentia Access Road areas were also met with public backlash.
Murphy told VOCM Open Line with Darrell Power there are plenty of suitable locations for such a facility.
They don’t want it, and she calls it a “disaster waiting to happen.”
