A St. John’s lawyer and cycling enthusiast had an unusual encounter on the streets of St. John’s recently while out enjoying a ride.
Kirsten Morry says she was paused on Freshwater Road at a red light when a driver pulled up next to her, rolled down his window and told her if she couldn’t keep up with the speed of traffic, then she was not allowed on the road.
Morry says the driver was mistaken.
She says cyclists have to keep as far to the right in their lane as is practicable according to the law, but the speed varies according to the cyclist.
Morry, meanwhile, says it is challenging to cycle on the road with vehicles.
She’d like to see more infrastructure that is physically separated from cars, as is the case in more bicycle-friendly cities, which would be her preference as a cyclist.
