They still have some big decisions to make, but the winners of the Health Care Foundation’s Grand Prize Showhome are going to sit back and enjoy it for a while with family.
Larry Dalley says he never won anything in his life until he won a million dollar home for him and his wife, Marie McGrath. They took their first tour as owners of their new home on Ocean’s Edge in Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s on Monday afternoon.
Dalley was in the Northwest Territories when he found out from his wife that they had won the home. She says she was in shock.
She was driving when her sister called and told her Larry’s name was called. She thought there were lots of Larry Dalleys so it couldn’t be them, as they’ve never been very lucky. McGrath says it took her two hours before she finally reached her husband and realized they were the winners.
The lucky winners say they’ll be celebrating with family first. McGrath says they’ll have a nice dinner and a party, but still need to get used to the fact it’s their house.
They’re both retired so they are going to enjoy the home for a while and decide on whether to stay or sell. However, she is sure that after moving in, it’ll be hard to move out.
The couple of over 35 years were surrounded by family for their first tour, something Dalley says meant everything to them.
Home Lottery a Major Fundraising Force for Healthcare: Snow
Meanwhile, the President and CEO of the Healthcare Foundation says the Home Lottery is an opportunity to win the dream, while supporting healthcare.
Paul Snow says Larry Dalley and his wife have been buying tickets on the Grand Prize Show Home for the last ten years since the annual Home Lottery started.
The Lottery is one of their flagship fundraisers, helping them generate over a million dollars in net proceeds.
He believes passionately that every Newfoundlander and Labradorian deserves access to the highest quality of care.
Snow says the lottery helps them generate revenue to buy equipment, attract staff and provide the best quality of care in an environment that you call home.
