The Mayor of Carbonear is working on a plan to establish the town as a cruise ship destination.
Mayor Frank Butt says some have scoffed at his plan, but he believes the town and surrounding area has much to offer cruise ship passengers.
Butt says, with a little work, he believes it can happen, although he does not anticipate that they will draw in the massive ships.
He does believe, however, that they can attract cruise ships of 300 to 500 passengers once they have the necessary facilities up and ready to handle the influx.
