The President of Professional Municipal Administrators (PMA) says infrastructure is one of the biggest challenges municipalities face.
Town Clerks, department heads, Chief Administrative Officer’s, Town Managers and more from across the province gathered at the Holiday Inn, in St. John’s on Wednesday for the PMA’s annual convention and general meeting.
President of PMA and Chief Administrative Officer with the Town of Bay Roberts, Nigel Black says a lot of communities have old infrastructure in place.
He says you have typical challenges like water and sewer systems that are either not upgraded to start with, or they’re crumbling and need to be replaced or brought up to today’s standards.
Roads are also an issue with potholes and stretches of roads that need to be replaced altogether.
Black says all municipalities share similar experiences.
He says something he may be dealing with in Bay Roberts, someone else may be dealing with on the west coast and they can share experiences.
Black says he may be able to give them something they can take home and use in their community, and they may do vice-versa.
