It’s all in a day’s work.
Constable Glenn Cunningham with the RNC’s Traffic Section is being praised for his actions in helping a family of ducks cross a busy four-lane highway during the afternoon rush hour.
Constable Cunningham patrols the Pitts Memorial – CBS Bypass area regularly and noticed a duck, with 10 to 12 ducklings, on the side of the road.
He lives near Bowering Park in St. John’s where ducks regularly cross the pavement and instantly knew what was going to happen next.
That’s when Constable Cunningham jumped into action.
He activated his emergency equipment and stopped the traffic in the east-bound lane.
Things got a bit more difficult however, when the ducks reached the median with more heavy traffic to contend with ahead.
Constable Cunningham says some of the ducks got stuck on the grassy slope, so he got down into the median and pushed them along with the mother duck looking warily behind her.
The entire thing was caught on video and shared on social media by Jody Foss, and has gone viral.
Cunningham is being praised for the action, but he says the real stars are the drivers who waited patiently for the family to cross the road.
