Gander Fire/Rescue is preparing for activities to coincide with National Wildfire Community Preparedness Day.
There are over 160 wildfires in this province every year according to provincial government stats.
Gander Fire Rescue is one of 126 groups across Canada that received funding to hold demonstrations and activities to spread the word about fire safety.
Gander’s Fire Chief, Harold Lowe, says there will be activities on June 12th at their Raynham Avenue fire hall including a live fire demonstration. The demonstration will mimic a house fire and show the path of smoke and fire if windows are left open.
There will also be tips and information on how to make communities fire smart. Community members can sign up for inspections of their property to learn how to make it more fire safe.
Fire officials say the best way to combat wildfires is preparedness and early reporting.
