There’s a happy ending to a search effort for two kayakers reported missing in southwestern Newfoundland earlier this week.

Concerned family members contacted police on Wednesday morning about a man and woman who went kayaking on Lloyd River, but hadn’t been heard from since Monday evening.

Barachois Brook and Burgeo search and rescue teams were deployed, and launched an effort to track down the two kayakers.

Police say the pair, from Paradise, are experienced kayakers, and were equipped with ample gear. However, their tracking device had stopped working.

On Wednesday afternoon, crews located the two kayakers safe and sound on Buchan’s Road, about 10 kilometres from the highway, heading back to their vehicle.
