Ches Crosbie and the PCs have sent a letter to Premier Dwight Ball detailing eight points they would like to see implemented into the budget – but don’t expect the same from the NDP as the budget debate gets underway today.
Crosbie says in the spirit of collaboration, he is urging government not to re-introduce the 2019 budget brought forward by Tom Osborne on April 16th, but to introduce a revised budget with some of the recommendations heard by the PC’s on the campaign trail.
Crosbie cites elimination of the levy and the sales tax on home insurance, plus the introduction of an affordable child care program. He says it’s not an ultimatum; it’s a list of things he is asking government to consider. His offer to Premier Ball is to sit down together and work out which items to implement.
NDP Leader Alison Coffin has had conversations with both Ball and Crosbie, and wishes to come to an agreement with them.
Coffin says at this point, they’re looking mostly at legislative changes that have very low or no costs associated.
She says some other things they would like to see in the budget would require a re-arranging of existing funds. Coffin says there are a number of options they can look at in this fiscal year.
