It was a sight to behold.
Float planes from all over landed on Quidi Vidi Lake on the weekend as part of a series of events planned to mark the 100th anniversary of Alcock and Brown’s historic trans-Atlantic flight from St. John’s to Ireland.
The aircraft the aviators used to fly into history June 14, 1919 was built at Quidi Vidi Lake.
Bryan Hood, who is with the Canadian Owners and Pilots Association, says it is the first time since the 1970s that aircraft have landed on the lake.
Hood says that first flight was quite the feat. He says he can not even imagine what it would be like to look out over the water with WWI technology and say they were going to do it.
