A historic property dating back to the mid-1800s reopened earlier today on Fogo Island.
The Punt Premises consists of a restored salt-box style house, a traditional fishing stage and two fishing stores that collectively make up an outport fishing premises that were occupied for generations by different families in Joe Batt’s Arm on Fogo Island.
The outport fishing premises will also be home to about a dozen punts that will be available for people to row out in the harbour.
The initiative is part of the Shorefast Foundation’s ongoing efforts in preserving local culture while developing economic opportunities.
