The FFAW says an uncontrolled seal population is the biggest threat to declining Gulf cod stocks.
Union President Keith Sullivan told VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daly says the grey seal population is having an impact on the Gulf cod stock.
He says DFO is calling the decline in stock is due to “natural mortality” but Sullivan says grey seals are “really doing a number” on the stock.
He says efforts to rebuild the stock can’t be taken seriously until the seal population is addressed.
