Despite the cold, foggy weather, bikers turned out in droves this morning for the 13th annual Motorcycle Ride for Dad in St. John’s.
Hundreds of bikers showed up for the opening ceremonies at Newfoundland Power before riding through several communities on the Avalon Peninsula.

The event raised thousands of dollars for prostate cancer research, including a $20,000 donation from Hibernia
Peter Alteen, the CEO of Newfoundland Power, attributes the success of the ride to the character of the bikers. He says that the courage and commitment of the riders to come out in all sorts of weather amazes him.
VOCM’s own Brian O’Connell was the honourary ride captain of the event for the fifth year in a row.
He says that going through prostate cancer treatment himself makes this year’s event especially emotional. He says that the survival rate keeps getting better and better, and that he is someone who is now benefiting from the ride. He wants to personally thank all the riders for what they are doing.
Shout out to @RNC_PoliceNL Cadets and Ride Captain, Cst. Caelie Conroy. Thanks for all your help in making our parade possible this year, and every other year. You folks are awesome! pic.twitter.com/Pied1ZAvb1
