Crews from several fire stations responded to a report of a fire off the Foxtrap Access Road last evening.

The call came in at about 8:30, prompting crews from Paradise, Mount Pearl, Brookfield, and the West End fire stations to respond to Newco Metal and Auto Recycling on Incinerator Road.

Upon arrival fire crews were met with heavy smoke and fire showing from behind a large warehouse. Further investigation revealed a large mass of rubble was ablaze.

Firefighters had trouble accessing the fire initially due to a front-end loader blocking the gate to the property. Once the loader was moved fire crews spent the next few hours hosing down the debris pile using water trucked from a hydrant down the road.

There is no immediate word on the cause of the blaze.
