The provincial government is looking at a number of options for a new Francophone school in the metro area.
Questions have been raised about the cost of land in Galway, one of a number of locations being considered for the school.
Minister Steve Crocker told reporters that a number of existing options are also being looked at before a final decision is made.
Crocker says a Request for Proposals is about to go out looking at existing government space—like the old Holy Cross and the School for the Deaf.
That information will be back in time for the next budget in 2020.
NDP Questions
Meanwhile, the NDP member for St. John’s centre, Jim Dinn, says that no matter what, we need to base the decision on the best way to meet the needs of teachers and students.
He says that if we do build a new school, that decision should be made based on needs and not cosmetics.
He says that “sexy, fancy and modern” is not an educational outcome. He questions if this is more of a developmental proposal or an educational proposal.
