The Opposition wants to know why references to cronyism and nepotism were “purged” from a recent draft report commissioned by the government to find out why people leave Newfoundland and Labrador and what it would make them come back.
The survey, conducted by Ottawa-based Goss Gilroy, was announced by the provincial government in February. The goal was to understand why expats left, and to gain insight into what would entice them back.
Minister of Education Skills and Labour, Bernard Davis was questioned by Opposition Member Paul Dinn who gained access to the draft report through an ATIPP request.
Minister Davis says government felt it was important to find out what would bring Newfoundlanders and Labradorians back to the province once they’d left.
He told the House you can cherry pick out of the report whatever you like, but they wanted to know what will bring people back.
