A Newfoundland firefighter has been recognized by the National Fire Protection Association as a Rising Star for her dedication to educating the public, protecting the community and saving lives.
Chief Jodie Matthews of the Pacquet Fire Department was chosen for providing consistent and innovative outreach to her community.
Minister of Municipal Affairs, Lisa Dempster, paid tribute to Chief Matthews in the House of Assembly.
She says Chief Matthews is one of a small number of female fire chiefs in the province.
