A St. John’s woman says she’s never seen the Health Care system in such a bad situation.
Tammy, who asked not to have her last name used, was responding out of frustration to long line-ups at the Health Sciences Emergency Department yesterday.
She says her mother—who recently underwent chemotherapy—was brought in by ambulance with breathing problems, but hours later, was still sitting in the waiting area with a mask.
Tammy says there were no rooms to take her mother, and there were four ambulances ahead of her also waiting for beds to open up. She says the situation brought the emergency room to a complete standstill.
A Red Alert was called yesterday morning, meaning there were no ambulances available for calls.
VOCM’s Question of the Day on Sunday showed that 78 per cent of respondents say they have postponed or delayed seeking medical attention because of wait times.
