Unifor is raising the alarm after learning that Loblaw is cutting 44 full-time jobs in this province and offering part-time positions.
The company—which operates Dominion stores in this province—is restructuring, and the union says Loblaw is offering workers buyout packages with the aim of eliminating 44 full-time positions.
Unifor represents some 1,200 workers at 11 Loblaw stores across the province.
Atlantic Director of Unifor Lana Payne told VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daly, in her opinion, it’s not a matter of not being able to provide full-time work, it’s about a profitable company “getting out of the business of full-time jobs.”
She says that’s not acceptable. Economies, families and communities cannot sustain themselves without decent work opportunities.
