The man known as ‘Mr. Baseball’ was honoured by the Town of CBS, having a field named after him.
Jim Crosbie was a prominent figure in the town’s sporting community, most notably for baseball.
He played a major role in establishing the Stoney Hill baseball field, ensuring baseball was included in the first Newfoundland and Labrador games in CBS in 1996. He also filled the role as president of the Conception Bay South Baseball Association, for many years.
Crosbie passed away last July, at the age of 77.
Yesterday, to recognize the impact he had on the community, the Town of CBS renamed the field at Stoney Hill to the “Jim Crosbie Baseball Field.”
Mayor Terry French says he goes back to knowing the Crosbie’s “pre-baseball”, if that’s even possible.

Jim’s son, Basil Crosbie, was at the ceremony last evening. He says because of his father, nobody went without.
Although kids these days may not know him, Basil says those who grew up with Crosbie are coming back to honour him.
He says people still go to the field to pay respects for the things he did for the town.
While Basil says his father would be embarrassed by all the attention, he would still be honoured.
He says deep down his father would be pleased, but wouldn’t say much as he was a quiet, unassuming type of guy.
