The NDP member-elect for Labrador West says he’s ready to get down to business when he takes his seat in the House of Assembly this coming week.
A judicial recount Friday established that Jordan Brown won the seat over incumbent Liberal Graham Letto by just two votes.
Brown has been sitting in on estimates meetings and attending the House of Assembly from the public gallery to get up-to-speed.
Brown’s first order of business, once he’s officially sworn-in, will be to vote on the budget.
He says he’s ready. He told reporters it’s a “trial by fire” but says he’s prepared and up-to-date to take on the task.
Graham Letto, who represented the district for the last four years, says he’s still not sure what’s next.
He says for now he has no immediate plans other than some family functions. He will take some time to consider what to do next.
Meanwhile, Premier Dwight Ball says the recount in Labrador West reiterates the message that “every vote counts.” He says it’s really about getting people out to vote, and he looks forward to working with the new MHA.
NDP Leader Allison Coffin is delighted with the result, and has been working to make sure Brown is as ready as possible for the budget vote. She says he understands the procedure and is ready.
