A popular nature trail in Central Newfoundland will have its life extended by decades, thanks in part to a major funding announcement.
$400,000 has been earmarked for the Corduroy Brook Nature Trail in Grand Falls-Windsor.
The federal government announced $200,000 for renovations through ACOA, while provincial and municipal governments are each putting $100,000 towards the project.
The executive director of the Corduroy Brook Enhancement Association, Barry Manuel, says one of the biggest projects will be the replacement of a 110-metre boardwalk that spans a wetlands area.
The walkway has deteriorated over the years, however Manuel says the funding will do more than just replace the boardwalk.
The new boardwalk will be constructed in a way that gives it an estimated lifespan of 75 years. He says besides minor maintenance, it will mean they won’t have to worry about it.
