Efforts to establish a community garden in the Trinity Bay community of Heart’s Delight-Islington have proven so popular, they’re already looking to secure more land to expand the project.
Joann Ryan is with the Island Harbour 50+ Club. She says the garden idea was started to get more people outside, active and growing their own food.
The project was started for 50+ Club members but has proven popular with young and old alike.
The town obliged by offering them some land where the old pool once was. Ryan says the pool had been filled in with rocks when it was closed and it took a bit of work to get it where it needed to be.
Now Ryan says they’re already eyeing an adjacent piece of property to expand the community garden project.
