Newfoundlander Alex Newhook’s father is still on a high after his son was selected in the first round of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft over the weekend.
As VOCM News reported over the weekend Newhook, of St. John’s, was selected 16th overall by the Colorado Avalanche at the draft in Vancouver Friday night.
In a call to the VOCM Sunday Drive with Darrell Power, Shawn Newhook says it was a whirlwind weekend watching his son’s dream come true and hear his name finally called.
He says every minute someone is calling them or something is coming in talking about the draft and how exciting it all is.
Newhook says Alex is very driven and has always been committed to his goal.
He says Alex has always wanted to be a hockey player and stuck to it. He watches what he eats, exercises, has the mental drive and stays disciplined. With so many good players out there, you need those things to separate yourself, and Alex has those right now.
