For the first time ever, a man from this province has won Kids Help Phone’s National Volunteer of the Year Award.
Stephen Hooper, who is from Chance Cove, won the award during the 30th annual Kids Help Phone AGM in Toronto.
He is an ambassador for the organization, and helps promote their services online.
Hooper says when he was young, he always recommended the service to friends who were struggling, and that it was always a goal to get to work with the organization.
He says the difference that he is able to make in the lives of struggling kids and teens means a lot.
He says people will come back to him a month or two later and thank him for helping them out. He says if he can help just one person, it is worth it.
